    DAVID JOHNSTONE, 34, OF FARNHAM, SURREY AND JOHN HOARE, 29, OF LEICESTER, PLAN TO LEAVE FROM THE VICINITY OF CAPE COD NEXT MONTH IN AN ATTEMPT TO BEAT THE RECORD OF 55 DAYS IT TOOK TWO AMERICANS TO ROW ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN IN 1896.

    THEY SAID THEY WILL ROW NONSTOP, EACH MAN TAKING 12 HOURS A DAY AT ONE OF THE SIX SETS OF OARS THE ROWBOAT, PUFFIN, WILL CARRY.

    THE PUFFIN WEIGHS 500 POUNDS, HAS A PARTIAL CABIN WITH BUNKS AND A KEROSENE STOVE. IT CAME TO THIS COUNTRY WITH JOHNSTONE AND HOARE ABOARD THE LINER UNITED STATES.
