    Background: A Tibetan orchestra, playing a variety of outlandish instruments, spearheaded a most, moving and colourful reception to the Dalai Lama on his arrival at Siliguri railway station, West Bengal, Apl 19 aboard the special 13-coach "North- East Frontier" train.

    It was an occasion so tremendous that the normally impassive Tibetans displayed their emotions quite openly. One thousand colourfully dressed Tibetans, waving multi-coloured gyaltsen, religious and secular banners and streamers, were joined by more than four thousand Indians to great the 'living Buddha' as he stopped from the train at the end of the first 500-mile leg of the journey from Tezpur.

    Second break in the Dalai Lama's journey into exile was sat the famous Buddhist pilgrim centre of Sarnath, near Benares, Apl 19 where Buddhist is amid to have preached his first sermon 2,500 years ago.

    His next and final stop will be at Dehra Dun, whence he will drive 22 miles to his new home at Mussourie.

    Speaking to the Indian Parliament Apl 20 Indian Premier Nehru warned followers of the Dalai Lama in India not to ferment trouble with Communist China. "The host country has the right to limit activities of foreigners if these create difficulties with other countries." He said the Dalai Lama was free to carry on legitimate religious activities, but declared, "Political activity must not be carried on from one country to another."
