Background: The Independiente Club of Argentina won the Inter-American Football Cup against Atletico Espanol of Mexico in Caracas on Sunday (29 August).

SYNOPSIS: The Argentine side - wearing red - won the second log of the two leg final on penalties after the match had finished in a scoreless draw. The first leg had also been a draw - two goals all. It was played in Caracas on Friday (27 August). The second leg was a hard fought game, with the Argentine team pressing the Mexicans in the early stages.

Both goalkeepers were kept fully occupied and were called on the make some spectacular saves. Here, Camacho of Mexico, clears the ball after an Argentine attack.

However, the Mexicans replied with some aggressive and striking play. Rivero - number eight - cuts through the Argentine defence and almost scores.

At half time the score was still nil-nil. In the second half the Mexicans stepped up the pressure. But although they have one of the most expensive forwards lines in South America, they could not p???rate the well-organised Argentine defence.

The final was decided on penalties with each side allotted five kicks. Ramirez of Mexico placed his penalty in the net but then Argentina equalised. Rodriguez of Mexico missed his penalty and then Soria of Argentina made sure of victory for his club.
