  • Description

Three army officers, arrested on the orders of the late President of Chad, Ngarta Tombalbaye early this month, met leaders of the coup which overthrew and killed the president, at a special meeting on Monday (14 April).

The former Presidential adviser General Djogo, National Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Djimet, and his Second-in-Command Captain Kotiga were detained on charges of plotting a coup.

The three men, who were released only hours after the overthrow of President Tombalbaye, met General Noel Odingar, who is reported to have led the storming of the Presidential Palace on Sunday (13 April).

They also met members of the former government from the National Assembly and the Supreme Court, who were asked to attend the meeting. No reason for the meeting was given.

Chad is now ruled by a nine-man Superior Military Council which has lifted the curfew in the country and reopened the airport. Life is reported to be returning to normal.
