  • Description

A bomb has wrecked the Paris home of the Director-General of France's nationalised Electricity Company. However, the Director General, Monsieur Marcel Boiteux, was not inside the building at the time of the explosion. As yet, nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, but some reports indicate that it was connected with anti-nuclear protests.

SYNOPSIS: The bomb exploded on Friday night (8 July) in the building where Monsieur Boiteaux lives in the Lamartine Square district. Although the Director General's fourth floor apartment was wrecked there were no casualties. The motive behind the bombing is not known, but it is thought to be connected with anti-nuclear protests. So far there is no official word on France's nuclear energy development programme, but the Government was signed an agreement with West Germany to develop fast breeder reactors.

This started an angry campaign by unions and ecologists after a low level radioactive leak at the Comuhex plant at Pierrelatte about a week ago. The French Cabinet was expected to have discussed the construction of nuclear centres before it rose for the summer recess, but the official communique at the end of the session did not mention the subject.
