Background: In a Go-Kart race sponsored by the San Sebastian city council, recently, French driver Radux won the first International Gaztelupe Prize, for a race over 15 laps on the Amara course.

Driving his small Go-Kart with its tiny engine, the Frenchman was soon well ahead of the field of forty, and stayed in front until the end of the race. He came in to win in the record time of 11min 46secs, having covered 9 kilometres in 15 laps.

An event was also held for women drivers and they showed the crowd their skill on the winding circuit. Nicole Bensousan skimmed over the finishing line in front of the field to win in 9 min 55 secs, after ten laps totalling six kilometres.

This form of motor racing, made popular in the United States, is attracting a great deal of interest all over Europe. The San Sebastian city council decided to hold this race and award the prize, in the hope of bringing more tourists into the city.
