An audience of mainly young people assembled in the main hall of the Congress Palace in the Chad capital, N'Djamena, on Sunday (23 June), for a Youth Conference on Chad Socialism. The conference had been organised by the Ministry of Education. The main guest speaker was the President of Chad, N'Garta Tombalbaye.
Before he addressed the assembly, several young socialists and youth leaders made speeches referring to the history and importance of Socialism in Chad. The Conferences agreed to present a motion to President Tombalbaye, who has adopted the title of Great Countryman. The motion offered him their support for what he was doing for the country.
In his speech, President Tombalbaye said the teachers in the Chad School of Socialism had formulated a programme of economic and social development based on the realities in the Chad Republic. He said the people of Chad, whether they were workers or intellectuals, had basic rights which were sacred. The main objective of Chad socialism was to preserve and promote these rights.
After describing the various contributions to socialist through by philosophers and thinkers from Plato to Lenin, the President urged his young audience to carry the spirit of Chad Socialism wherever they went.
