    BRITAIN'S COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY, WHO ARRIVES BACK IN LONDON TODAY (SATURDAY), AND MR. IAN SMITH ENDED TWO DAYS OF TALKS ON THE RHODESIAN INDEPENDENCE CRISIS IN SALISBURY ON THURSDAY (9 NOVEMBER) WITH AN AGREEMENT THAT BOTH SIDES SHOULD "REFLECT FURTHER" ON THEIR POSITIONS.

    THE MEETING ENDED WITH A JOINT STATEMENT WHICH SAID THAT MR. SMITH AND MR. THOMSON DISCUSSED ALL CONSTITUTIONAL ASPECTS OF THE RHODESIAN PROBLEM.

    IT ADDED: "IT WAS AGREED THAT EACH SIDE SHOULD REFLECT FURTHER ON THE MATTERS DISCUSSED, INCLUDING THE POINTS OF DIFFERENCE WHICH THEY HAD IDENTIFIED".

    TODAY (SATURDAY) AS RHODESIANS CELEBRATED THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF UDI, MR. SMITH WAS TO MAKE A BROADCAST IN WHICH HE WAS EXPECTED TO REFER TO ANY POSSIBILITY OF BRINGING BRITAIN AND RHODESIA TO A SETTLEMENT.
