AIDES: About two months. Nine weeks.



CLAY: A year off is usually too long off for a heavyweight. I've been off three years. Fraziers active, he's youthful, he's right in his prime and ordinarily I would need maybe four months. But under the condition we'll have to just take a chance on two.



QUESTION: When will you go into training for this specific fight?



CLAY: Only when everything is straight and we know everything is set. Then mentally I'll be ready but we'll have to wait.



QUESTION: Will you be fighting in Atlanta?



CLAY: Right.



QUESTION: Why would you prefer to fight in Atlanta rather than in any other city?



CLAY: Well, various promoters and people have been telling me to have the fight in various places but they were turned down for different reasons. This is the latest try, that's all. Just wherever they say we can get it.

Background: Mohammed Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay, said at a newsconference in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday (13 August) that Atlanta is the likely venus for a proposed heavyweight Championship fight between him and Joe Frazier. The date for the bout is tentatively set for October 26.

The proposed bout has been rejected by a number of cities in the United States because Clay, stripped of his World Heavyweight Crowd when he refused Army induction, has been unable to secure a licence. But the Atlanta Athletic Commission has issued him with a licence. At the press conference Clay said.
