  • Description

VISNEWS filmed the public session of the First Congress of Western European Organisations and Individuals Working for Nuclear Disarmament at St Pancras Town Hall, London, Jan 16.

Speakers at the session included author J.B.Priestley, Mr John Horner; Canon L.J. Collins (St Pauls Cathedral), Chairman of the Congress; Dr Antoinette Pirie. Professor Bertrand Russell, famous philosopher, gave a brilliantly human speech on the subject.

Planned originally to take place in Basle, the Congress was postponed when the Swiss Government banned it. The British Home Office is stated to have assured the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (organisers of the Congress) that, subject to individual acceptability, no objections will be raised to admission to this country of European delegates.

The Congress will take place Jan 16-17-18.
