  • Description

A United States' Air Force officer -- Lieutenant Phillip Boggs -- is training hard at his base in Colorado, U.S.A., with his eyes firmly fixed on a gold medal for diving at next year's Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada.

Lieutenant Boggs works hard as a computer programmer at Colorado's Air Force Academy. But -- after hours -- he is working even harder to perfect his technique in the Academy's pool.

He had presented his challenge to international competition last year by winning the World Championship in Belgrade. This year he hopes to travel to Cali, Columbia, for the 1975 World Championships.

And the United States needs all the strength it can muster for the Montreal Olympics. East Germany is determined to and American domination in the swimming events and look strong enough to do so. With other powerful challenge from Australia and the Soviet Union, the American team needs all the practice it can get.

Lieutenant Bogg's trainer is fellow officer Captain Mickey King. Captain King teaches swimming to the cadets at the Academy, but spends Olympic hopefuls on the finer points of diving.
