Visnews filmed the West German Minister for Economic Affairs, Prof. Erhardt in conversation with a colleague as Brussels (3 Dec) saw the opening of two day meetings of the Ministerial councils of the European Economic Community and of Euratom.
Prof. Erhardt is president of the six country Common market which begins a 'first stage' January 1.
The decisions taken Dec 3 by the Common Market council represent an advance on the Benelux plan for a compromise solution to the Oct 31 free trade area deadlock in Paris.
The Benelux countries - Belgium
Holland Luxembourg - suggested
the 10% Common Market tariff cuts
by extended to all 47 member
states of GATT as a provisional
measure lasting 12 months.
The Brussels meeting decided to extend the cuts to all countries trading with the 6 of the Common Market on a 'favoured nation' basis, and to extend the first 20% quota increases to other members of O.E.E.C,.
Prof. Erhardt is to fly to London Dec 4 (fog permitting) for 'discussions' with Mr. Reginald Maudling.
