    IT WAS THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN THE OPERATION - CODE-NAMED "FIERCE TIGER" - WHICH WAS STARTED BY THE 26TH PEGIMENT, KOREAN TIGER DIVISION, TO RID "IEY CONG FORCES FROM THE HIGHWAY WHICH LINKS QUI NHON AND NHA TRANG. THE OPERATION BEGAN EARLY IN JANUARY.

    THE OFFICER TOLD HIS CAPTORS THAT HE WAS A PLATOON LEADER IN A BATTALION OF THE NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY WHICH HAD PENETRATED INTO SOUTH VIETNAM LAST YEAR. HE SAID THAT HE, AND OTHER GROUPS, WERE REJOINING THEIR UNITS AFTER TREATMENT AT A HOSPITAL SOMEWHERE IN THE AREA. BUT HE DID NOT LOCATE THE HOSPITAL.

    THE KOREANS GAVE HIM MEDICAL TREATMENT AND SENT HIM BACK TO THEIR HEADQUARTERS BY HELICOPTERS FOR FURTHER INTERROGATION. THEN THEY RESUMED THEIR SEARCH FOR OTHER ENEMY ELEMENTS.

    SYNOPSIS: KOREAN TROOPS OPERATING NEAR QUI-NHON LAST WEEK (FEB 24) CAPTURED A REGULAR NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY OFFICER ON THE SLOPES OF HON-CA MOUNTAIN.

    THE MAN IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS TRUNG-HIEP AND SAID HE WAS A PLATOON LEADER IN A BATTALION WHICH PENETRATED INTO SOUTH VIETNAM LAST YEAR.

    HE TOLD HIS CAPTORS THAT HE AND OTHER TROOPS WERE ON THEIR WAY BACK TO THEIR UNITS AFTER TREATMENT AT A HOSPITAL IN THE AREA. BUT HE REFUSED TO PINPOINT THE LOCATION OF THE HOSPITAL.

    THE KOREANS, FROM THE FAMED TIGER DIVISION, WERE CONTINUING THEIR PROBES AS PART OF OPERATION "FIERCE TIGER", WHICH BEGAN EARLY IN JANUARY AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN ROUNDING UP VIET CONG SUSPECTS AND CAPTURING ENEMY ARMS AND AMMUNITION.

    AFTER RECEIVING MEDICAL TREATMENT, THE CAPTURED OFFICER WAS SENT BACK TO HEADQUARTERS BY HELICOPTER FOR FURTHER INTERROGATION.

    AND THE KOREAN TIGERS CONTINUED THEIR SEARCH OF THE MOUNTAINSIDE.
