  • Description

IN NEW YORK, THE NEGROES' CAMPAIGN FOR RACIAL EQUALITY HAS GIVEN BIRTH TO A CONCERTED MOVEMENT OF PROTEST IN HARLEM. THIS TIME IT'S OVER THE SLUM CONDITIONS AND INSTEAD OF PAYING RENT TO THEIR LANDLORDS THEY ARE PAYING IT INTO A FUND TO BE HELD UNTIL REPAIRS ARE CARRIED OUT.

AT THE SAME TIME, NEGRO LEADERS OF THE CONGRESS OF RACIAL EQUALITY ARE EXAMINING THE SLUMS, ADVISING THE TENANTS TO REFUSE PAYING RENT TO THE LANDLORDS AND URGING THEM TO JOIN THEIR MOVEMENT FOR SOLIDARITY.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY DONE SO, MEMBERS OF THE CONGRESS AVE STAGED SIT-DOWN STRIKERS IN THEIR HONOUR... ON THE STEPS OF NEW YORK'S CITY HALL. AS USUAL, THE SQUATTERS WERE DISLODGED BY THE POLICE AND CARRIED OFF TO WAITING POLICE VANS.
