LATEST REPORTS TONIGHT (SATURDAY) ARE THAT 130 BODIES HAVE BEEN FOUND SO FAR IN THE SEARCH FOR VICTIMS OF THE AVALANCHE WHICH SWEPT THE FOUND SO FAR IN THE SEARCH FOR VICTIMS OF THE AVALANCHE WHICH SWEPT THE SOUTH WALES MINING VILLAGE OF ABERFAN YESTERDAY, SUBMERGING A SCHOOL AND SEVERAL HOUSES. AMONG VISITORS LAST NIGHT AND TODAY TO THE STRICKEN VILLAGE WERE PRINCE PHILIP, AND LORD SNOWDON.

MOST OF THE BODIES FOUND HAVE BEEN YOUNG CHILDREN, TRAPPED BENEATH THE SEA OF MUD AS IT HIT THEIR SCHOOL. ONLY 29 OF THE 254 CHILDREN BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN IN THE SCHOOL ARE KNOWN TO HAVE SURVIVED THE DISASTER. NOT ALL THE BODIES SO FAR RECOVERED HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED.

THE RESCUE WORKERS, MANY OF THEM WELSH MINERS HARDENED TO THE DAILY DANGER OF DEATH UNDERGROUND, WEPT AS THE BODIES OF THE CHILDREN WERE BROUGHT OUT OF THE DEBRIS. THE RESCUE OPERATION IS GOING ON IN THICK MUD AND FILTH MADE WORSE BY HEAVY RAIN. MEALS AND HOT DRINKS ARE BEING PROVIDED BUT MANY REFUSE TO STOP AS THEY CONTINUE FIGHTING A WAY THROUGH THE TWO MILLION TONS OF MUD AND RUBBLE WHICH COVERS THE BODIES OF THE VICTIMS YET TO BE FOUND.

LORD SNOWDON, HUSBAND OF THE QUEEN'S SISTER PRINCESS MARGARET, ARRIVED AT ABERFAN LAST NIGHT. HE TALKED WITH SOBBING PARENTS IN THE EARLY MORNING DARKNESS AS THEY WAITED FOR NEWS OF THEIR CHILDREN STILL MISSING.

PRINCE PHILIP ARRIVED TODAY, AND WENT WITH THE RESCUE WORKERS INTO THE SHORED-UP INTERIOR OF WHAT IS LEFT OF THE SCHOOL. "THIS IS DREADFUL" HE SAID, GRIM-FACED.

AS HEAVY RAIN SWEPT THE AREA TODAY THERE WAS A DANGER THAT ANOTHER AVALANCHE WOULD START, ENGULFING THE RESCUE WORKERS. BUT THE RAIN STOPPED AND THE COAL-WASTE TIP FROM WHICH THE AVALANCHE CAME WAS SPRAYED WITH PLASTIC TO SEAL IT OFF.

OFFICIALS ANNOUNCED THEY WERE CERTAIN THAT THERE WOULD BE NO FURTHER LANDSLIDES.
