    CONGO-KINSHASA CAN NOW LAY CLAIMS TO THE LARGEST BICYCLE FACTORY IN AFRICA. THREE CONGOLESE MINISTERS WERE PRESENT AT THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY FOR A NEW PROJECT TO MANUFACTURE MO-PEDS ON A PRODUCTION-LINE SCALE.

    THE CYCLOR FACTORY, FOUNDED THIRTY FIVE YEARS AGO IN THE BOROUGH OF LIMETE, HAS HAD A HISTORY OF PROGRESSIVE EXPANSION. STARTING WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF BICYCLES, THE FACTORY, WHICH NOW EMPLOYS FIVE HUNDRED PEOPLE, HAS GROWN TO INCLUDE MO-PEDS AND SCOOTERS. UNDER PRESENT CONDITIONS IT IS ABLE TO MANUFACTURE 120 THOUSAND BICYCLES, 24 THOUSAND MO-PEDS, AND 5 THOUSAND SCOOTERS A YEAR. THIS FIGURE WILL LATER BE INCREASED TO A TOTAL OF 200 THOUSAND VEHICLES.

    MINISTER KISHIBA PERFORMED THE OPENING CEREMONY BY CUTTING THE TAPE, SETTING IN ACTION ONE OF THE MOST MODERN PRODUCTION LINES OF ITS TYPE IN AFRICA. MR. KISHIBA, ACCOMPANIED BY MINISTER MUSHIETE AND MINISTER KINWAY, CONCLUDED HIS VISIT WITH A TOUR OF THE FACTORY UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE DIRECTOR, MR. ORBAN.
