  • Description

North and South Korean Red Cross Societies agreed Friday (11 August) -- after a year of tough negotiations -- to start substantive talks on the reunion of divided Korean families.

The talks will begin in the Northern Capital of Pyongyang on August 30. The second round will be held in Seoul, the Southern Capital, on September 13.

The talks are then scheduled to continue in the two cities alternately until the estimated ten-million Koreans separated from their families since the Korean war (1950-1953) can be reunited.

These agreements and a set of others on procedural matters were arrived at during the 25th preliminary meeting Friday at the border village of Panmunjom. These meetings began lest September.
