  • Description

FIVE-THOUSAND DOG-OWNERS - WITH 1,500 DOGS - HELD A MASS RALLY IN TOKYO'S HIBIYA PARK YESTERDAY PROTESTING AT A DEARTH OF DOG FOOD IN JAPAN. THEY DEMANDED THAT MORE DOG FOOD SHOULD BE IMPORTED INTO THE COUNTRY FOR JAPAN'S FIVE-AND-A-HALF-MILLION DOGS.

JAPAN ALREADY IMPORTS $ US 15-MILLION WORTH OF DOG FOOD FROM THE UNITED STATES AND GREAT BRITAIN, BUT WITH LOCALLY PRODUCED DOG FOODS COSTING ALMOST DOUBLE THE IMPORTED BRITISH EQUIVALENT, A JAPANESE DOG FOOD CONSUMERS' LEAGUE ADVOCATED THE PROTEST RALLY.

DOG-OWNERS FROM TOKYO AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS JOINED IN THE RALLY, INVOKING THE AID OF THE PUBLIC AT LARGE, AND SAYING THAT THEY REALLY DO CARE FOR THEIR PETS-AND ARE NOT CRUEL TO THEM AS SOME BRITISH ORGANISATION HAVE SUGGESTED.
