    THE SOVIET UNION SCORED A DOUBLE TRIUMPH IN THE 1,350 MILE (2,170 KILOMETRE) INTERNATIONAL CYCLING RACE FROM BERLIN TO WARSAW WHICH ENDED ON SUNDAY NIGHT. THE SOVIET UNION WON BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM HONOURS.

    THE RACE WAS RUN IN 15 STAGES ACROSS EAST GERMANY, CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND POLAND. SOVIET CYCLIST GENNADY LEBEDIEV WON THE INDIVIDUAL CLASSIFICATION IN A TIME OF 56 HOURS 41 MINUTES AND 26 SECONDS. PLACE GETTERS WERE DOLEZEL (CZECHOSLOVAKIA), KUDRA (POLAND).

    THE SOVIET UNION WON THE TEAMS EVENT FROM POLAND BY A MARGIN OF ONLY 12 MINUTES. EAST GERMANY WAS THIRD, TWO MINUTES BEHIND THE POLISH TEAM.

    IT WAS THE 18TH TIME THE RACE HAD BEEN HELD. ONE HUNDRED RIDERS STARTED AT BERLIN, BUT ONLY 77 WERE IN THE RACE FOR THE FINAL STAGE -- THE 135 MILES (215 KILOMETRES) FROM TORUN TO WARSAW.
