    FOLLOWING THE RATIFICATION OF THE BANGKOK AGREEMENT BY INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA ENDING THE THREE YEAR HOSTILITY, SEVERAL MEETINGS HAD TAKEN PLACE BETWEEN THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE TWO COUNTRIES TO RESUME TRADE TIES AND ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS.

    THE FINAL STAGE OF THE TALKS WHICH MAY LEAD TO THE EXCHANGE OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS STARTED IN THE MALAYSIAN CAPITAL OF KUALA LUMPUR TODAY (SEPTEMBER 6) WITH THE ARRIVAL OF ANOTHER INDONESIAN TEAM CONSISTING OF MEMBERS FROM THE ARMY AND GOVERNMENT.

    THE TEAM, LEAD BY COLONEL SOEDARSONO PRODJOMISENO, WILL HOLD DISCUSSIONS ON DEFENCE AND SECURITY, TRADE AND CULTURE. THE TALKS ARE EXPECTED TO LAST SEVERAL DAYS.

    PRESENT AT THE MEETING WAS THE MALAYSIAN DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TUN ABDUL RAZAK, WHO WITH THE INDONESIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ADAM MALIK, DRAFTED OUT THE PEACE AGREEMENT IN BANGKOK TWO MONTHS AGO.

    THE TWO MOSLEM COUNTRIES BROKE OFF RELATIONS THREE YEARS AGO WHEN MALAYSIA WAS FORMED. INDONESIA HAD THEN STRONGLY OBJECTED TO ITS FORMATION CALLING IT A NEO-COLONIALIST PLOT DESIGNED TO ENCIRCLE THE COUNTRY.
