  • Description

    1.
CU Egyptian President Anwar Sadat speaking to reporters in English
    1.28

SADAT: "My personal feeling I have already stated before, this is (United States President) Carter's show. It is neither (Israeli Prime Minister Menachem) Begin's nor mine show. This is my personal opinion. So my opinion: why not sign the three copies there, because the man, or the unknown soldier, as I have already stated before, is President Carter. Behind which, this is my personal idea."

REPORTER: "There has been some discussion about the fate of Jerusalem in the near future. Mr. Begin is quoted as saying he would like to have, maybe, a truce on the word 'War', regarding the future of Jerusalem. Would you go along with that?"

SADAT: "Well, step by step, let us in the first hand, sign the treaty. And, as I have stated before, and am happy that Begin recognised the fact, the real peace process starts after the signing, and the singing is not the climax; it is only the beginning. So we shall have Jerusalem. We shall have lots...we shall have problems, lots of problems to solve. And, I am always optimistic, as I told you before."

    REPORTER: "Thank you, Mr. President."
