    NEW DETACHMENT OF 2,000 SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS LANDED AT QUI NHON, ABOUT 275 MILES NORTH-EAST OF THE VIETNAMESE CAPITAL, SAIGON ON FRIDAY (OCTOBER 22).

    THE FIRST 600 SOLDIERS MARCHED DOWN THE RAMPS OF TWO LANDING CRAFT ONTO QUI NHON BEACH, CARRYING THE FLAGS OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY AND OF SOUTH VIETNAM.

    FIVE-THOUSAND SOUTH KOREAN MARINES OF THE BLUE DRAGON BRIGADE ARE ALREADY IN VIETNAM AND HAVE TAKEN UP DEFENSIVE POSITIONS AROUND THE U.S. SUPPLY BASE AT CAM RANH BAY, ABOUT 185 MILES NORTH-EAST OF SAIGON.

    ON ARRIVAL THE SOLDIERS WERE GREETED BY THE COMMANDER OF THE KOREAN DIVISION ASSIGNED TO VIETNAM, MAJOR GENERAL MYONG SHIN CHAE AND MAJOR GENERAL STANLEY LARSEN, U.S. COMMANDING GENERAL OF FIELD FORCES IN VIETNAM.

    THE COLOURFUL WELCOMING CEREMONY INCLUDED A BEVY OF YOUNG VIETNAMESE GIRLS WHO PRESENTED TO THE KOREAN SOLDIERS GARLANDS OF FLOWERS.
