Background: The Taiwan Foreign Minister, Mr Chow Shu-kai, appealed to Taiwan people to 'keep cool' over the announcement of President Nixon's planned visit to Peking.

Mr Chow was speaking at Taipei Airport at the weekend after returning from attending the Asia/Pacific Council meeting in Manila.

The Taiwan regime has already lodged a strong protest against the visit. Mr Chow said that President Nixon's plan was 'naturally, most unacceptable to us.

He said he did not believe in what he described as 'instant rash action and/or instant rash reaction.' However, he did think that President Nixon was, in the words of Mr Chow, playing into the hands of faking.
