Lebanese newspapers are currently reporting that israelis are concentrating troops at their border with Lebanon. Yesterday the english language "Daily Star" wrote that "the israelis maintains a high military tempo along the lebanese border amid rising fears of an imminent attack either across the armistice line or at a point along the cost between Naqora and Sidon". Papers reported that villages in the central sector could see the Israeli concentrations with the naked eye. They took the absence of israeli farmers as a sign of trouble because the farmers are usually withdrawn before attack. The border area has been reported to be tenses for several days--since israeli announced that an israeli officer was killed in a clash with palestinian commandos who also lost a man.
So far, officials in Beirut have remained silent on newspaper reports. Source close to the ministry of defense said noting more than usual was noted in the area.
This morning I did not notice any movement on either side, only a UN observers car.
Lebanese peasants were working in the fields but it is to note that no worker was seen on the israeli side.
Even this may be because they had no work to do on the cultures at this time of the year.
