    FOURTEEN WOMEN FROM NATO COUNTRIES TODAY (WEDNESDAY) PRESENTED PETITIONS TO THE NATO MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE IN THE HAGUE CALLING FOR A SERIES OF MEASURES AGAINST NUCLEAR WARFARE.

    SOME OF THE WOMEN CARRIED YELLOW POSTERS BEARING THE WORDS "WOMEN AGAINST THE BOMB, IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT NUCLEAR BOMBS AND THEIR EFFECTS, JOIN US." OTHERS CARRIED PHOTOGRAPHS OF THEIR CHILDREN.

    MRS. DAGMAR WILSON, OF WASHINGTON D.C., THE DELEGATION LEADER, PRESENTED THE PETITIONS TO THE CHIEF OF THE DUTCH SECRETARIAT ORGANISING THE NATO CONFERENCE.

    THE PROPOSALS INCLUDED A TREATY TO HALT THE SPREAD OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS. SIGNATURES TO SOME OF THE PETITIONS WERE SAID TO INCLUDE ALBERT SCHWEITZER AND MRS. HELEN PAULING, WIFE OF THE U.S. NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER, DR. LINUS PAULING.

    ABOUT 600 WOMEN, CARRYING PAPER FLOWERS, TOOK PART IN A "SILENT VIGIL" AT THE HEAVILY-GUARDED CONFERENCE SITE TODAY. THEY INCLUDED A BRITISH CONTINGENT OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT, WEARING "BAN THE BOMB" BADGES.

    EARLIER THE DUTCH GOVERNMENT HAD BANNED THE WOMEN FROM ENTERING HOLLAND, BUT IT LIFTED THE BAN YESTERDAY AFTER REPRESENTATIVES OF THE WOMEN HAD UNDERTAKEN NOT TO ORGANISE ANY PUBLIC DEMONSTRATIONS.
