Background: VISNEWS May 30 filmed J.D. du P. Basson, Member of Parliament for Namib, South West Africa, after his expulsion from the South African Nationalist Party caucus.
The reasons for his expulsion were not officially stated, but his speech on the Bantustan Bill has a direct bearing on it. In the speech he criticized Premier Dr. Verwoerd's decision to Abolish Native representation in Parliament.
He said it followed the system of one political party, unilaterally altering the composition of Parliament. This, he said, opened the way for future parties to undermine the whole stability of the Parliamentary system.
It will now be for his divisional committee in Namib to decide whether he is to remain a member of the Nationalist Party.
