  • Description

Mongolia's first ambassador to Nepal, Mangalym Duger Suren, presented his credentials to King Mahendra in Katmandu, the capital, April 24.

For the King, it was his first appearance in ceremonial regalia in public since he took full powers of governing in the bloodless coup d'etat last December.

For the people - many of whom are of Mongolian stock - it was a historic day. They seek closer ties, through the Nepalese Communist Party, with Mongolia's allies - mainland China and the Soviet Union.

Ambassador Suren arrived for the ceremony in a state coach, his Western-style dress in contrast to the glittering regalia of the royal court led by the sovereign seated on a golden throne.

After presenting his credentials, the ambassador invited the King to send an official delegation to Mongolia in July.
