    Another cause of speculation is which party Lindsay, if he does run for President, will represent. Lindsay first became Now York's mayor on the Republic ticket but his outspoken statements on such subjects as the Vietnam war soon lost him party support.

    When he came up for a second term of office, he lost Republican backing.
