Background: All labour unions excepting INTUC (Indian National Trade Union Congress), Congress party organisation, observed 27th March as Demands Day, all over the country with processions and rallies.

The following coverage was made in Coimbatore, South India, an industrial town, considered as Manchester of this part of the country.

About 30,000 labourers went in a procession through the town and concluded the observing with a rally.

The procession started at about 5.30 P. M. in good light but the crowd was not so big at this stage until it achieved its thickness after an hour when light suddenly failed due to clouds obscuring the last sunshine.

Though right aperture of the lens was used, the exposure could be assumed towards 'thinner' side. A little overdeveloping is therefore advisable.

Newspaper reports pertaining to the event are enclosed herewith. At Coimbatore, twenty five different unions participated.
