Background: A five-man delegation of Soviet Moslems continued their tour of Togo last week. Their visit was in return for two visits to the Soviet Union by Togo Moslems, in 1963 and 1970.
Led by the Grand Mufti of Outer Caucasia, El hadj Ismail Achmed, the delegation has met President Etienne Eyadema and Foreign Minister Joachim Hunlede, as well as attending services at the Mosque in Lome.
SYNOPSIS: A five-man delegation of Moslems from the Soviet Union continued their tour of Togo last week, with a visit the Mosque in Lome. The Soviet delegation of Moslems was led by the Grand Mufti of Outer Caucasia, El Hadj Ismail Achmed. The delegation had first arrived in the capital city of Togo, Lome, on the fifteenth of September. They were warmly greeted by worshippers at the Mosque.
he Grand Mufti of Outer Caucasia is conducting this tour in return for two visits to the Soviet Union by delegations of Moslems from Togo. One visit took place in 1963, the other in 1970. The President of Togo, Etienne Eyadema was pleased to receive the Soviet delegation of Moslems the day after their arrival. Foreign Minister Joachim Hunlede also took part in the official meeting. Following the meeting with Togo government officials, the Soviet delegation of Moslems left for a tour of the interior, before returning to attend services at the Mosque in Lome.
The Grand Mufti of Outer Caucasia, Mr Achmed, told reporters that during their visit to Togo, they hoped to develop closer links between the moslems of he Soviet Union and those of Togo.
