SYNOPSIS: Ever since the American occupation of Japan at the end of the Second World War baseball has become the adopted national game of the Japanese. And the acclaimed King of Japanese baseball is Oh. In fact, Oh has become probably the best known sportsman in the country and his name is a household world to millions of Japanese. His highly individualistic.....and, from a pitchers point of view, devastating...style has made him one of the most admired men in Japan.
Several years ago Oh challenged the current holder of the world batting record, American Henery Aaron, to a home run contest. Oh and Aaron hit it out run for run as the contest progressed but gradually the older American's experience told and he won ten runs to Oh's nine.
Aaron's record still stands at 755 but Oh is expected to break it this season. The 37 year old Japanese has played twenty season's in Japan's tough big-league competition. And his team, the Yomiuri Giants, will definitely celebrate the day their own giant smashes the record.
