    A 124-member Central American Economic Mission arrived in Taipei on Tuesday (13 March) for a four-day visit. The members are business leaders from El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama.

    The leader of the mission, Sr. Walter Beneke, El Salvador's ambassador to the Kuomintang Regime, said the purpose of the visit was to got know Taiwan and to see what locally-made products could be imported by the Central American countries. The visit was also in response to the growing economic ties between taiwan and the Central American countries.

    At the airport the group was welcomed by Tchen Hiong-fei Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Kuomintang Regime and Mr. Edward Wu, protocol director of the Foreign Ministry. In the evening they were guests at a reception given by Foreign Minister Shen Chang-huan. On Wednesday (14 March) members of the Mission visited a trade exhibition centre and the National Palace Museum.

    SYNOPSIS: An Economic Mission from Central America arrived at Taipei International Airport in Taiwan, on Tuesday. The one-hundred and twenty-four members of the mission came from El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rice and Panama.

    The visiting mission was greeted at the airport by Tchen Hiong-fei, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kuomintang Regime and Edward Wu, protocol director of the Foreign Ministry.

    On Wednesday morning members of the mission visited a trade exhibition of locally produced goods.

    A reception was given in their honour at the Taipei Guest House by Foreign Minister Shen Chang-huan. The leader of the Mission, Walter Beneke, El Salvador's ambassador to the Kuomintang Regime said the purpose of the trip was to get to know Taiwan. They were also looking to see what locally-made products could be imported by the Central American countries. Members of the mission said they had heard of Taiwan's economic development and wanted to see it for themselves.

    The four-day visit was also a response to the increasing trade links between Taiwan and the countries of Central America.
