    President Medici of Brazil called on President Nixon at the White House in Washington on Tuesday (7 December).

    Reports say the two men discussed the affects the United States import surcharge is having on Latin America, and a dispute between Brazil and the United States concerning fishing rights near the Brazilian coast.

    SYNOPSIS: Visiting the White House in Washington this week--Brazil's President Medici. He's on an official visit to the United States and flew to Washington from Camp David in Maryland. President Medici is the first Latin American leader to make an official visit to America since the United States imposed its import surcharges and it's understood this was a major topic of discussion during his meeting with President Nixon. Another item on the agenda--a dispute between Brazil and the United States concerning off-shore fishing rights near the Brazilian coast. Brazil wants American boats to stay behind the 200-mile limit, but the United States in recognising only twelve miles of territorial waters.

    It's understood President Medici also urged the United States to support a planned international coffee pact.
