  • Description

British tanks and armoured vehicles were put through their paces before foreign military attaches at a demonstration at Bovington Camp in Dorset yesterday (Thursday).

Military attaches from twenty countries watched as the tanks and armoured cars were put through their paces. Among the tanks on view were the Chieftain, the Saracen and the Saladin -- first they demonstrated their ability to travel over various terrains and then showed off their firepower.

One of the more dramatic demonstrations was made by a Centurion tank with a collapsible conning tower which enables the tank to move in fourteen foot (4.3 metres) of water.

Also on display was the West german Leopard tank. West Germany has bought two Chieftain tanks in exchange for two of their Leopard tanks which are now undergoing evaluation trials.
