    OFFICERS AND MEN OF A BRITISH REGIMENT BEGAN A SURVEY OF THE RUGGED MOUNTAIN AREA NEAR SINGLETON, AUSTRALIA, OVER WHICH THEY WILL TAKE PART IN A BIG MILITARY EXERCISE IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

    THE SURVEY WAS STARTED BY THE ADVANCE PARTY OF THE FIRST BATTALION OF THE ROYAL ULSTER RIFLES WHICH LANDED FROM BRITANNIA TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT AT THE WILLIAMTOWN RAAF BASE NEAR NEWCASTLE.

    THE FIRST PARTY WILL BE FOLLOWED BY OTHERS LATER THIS WEEK UNTIL ABOUT 600 OFFICERS AND MEN ARE IN SOUTH WALES. THEY'RE TO TAKE PART IN AN EXERCISE NAMED "SKY HIGH" TO BEGIN ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 10 AND WHICH WILL LAST FOR THREE WEEKS.

    THE AIRLIFT WAS DESCRIBED AS THE LONGEST EVER UNDERTAKEN BY THE BRITISH ARMY.
