  • Description

Last year a Dutch fishing boat brought up an altar-stone in its nets while fishing the coastal waters to the Oosterschelde, off the Zeeland coast.

The State Historical Museum in Laiden showed interest, and since then the fishing-boat which made the original find has dredged from the sea-bed more than 100 pieces from a Roman temple dating back to 200-250 A.D. The discovery is said to be one of the most important of the century in the Netherlands.

This film from Visnews staffman in Holland Jac de Gier shows the fishing-boat recovering material, and some of the finds on view at the State Historical Museum in Leiden.
