The new Soviet Parliament held its first session in Moscow on August 2nd. By ten a.m., when the session opened, the hall was filled with members and numerous visitors. Among those on the platform were Comrades Voronov, Kirilenko, Podgorny, and Suslov.
On behalf of the Council of Elders Professor Keldysh gave the floor to Konstantin Fedin, First Secretary of the Soviet Writers' Union and one of the oldest members of Parliament, to open the session.
Deputy Spiridonov was unanimously elected chairman of the Council of the Union, on of the two chambers of Parliament.
The second chamber, the Council of Nationalities, convened at noon, with members Kosygin, Pelshe, Polyansky, Shelepin and others on the platform.
The meeting was opened by Deputy Korotchenko.
Deputy Paletskis was unanimously elected chairman of the Council of Nationalities.
President Nikolai Podgorny addressed a joint meeting of the two chambers of Parliament.
