  • Description

At the Elysee Palace in Paris yesterday (30 June) Liberian President, William Tubman, had talks with President Georges Pompidou on unnamed projects which concern both their countries.

President Tubman was beginning a five-day private visit to France...his first visit since 1956. After lunching with President Pompidou, the Liberian President discussed cooperation between the two countries, and the current political situation in Africa.

President were given no further details of the informal talks, except that the visiting President had specifically requested increased cooperation, and was pleased with the discussions.

President Tubman, who is 74, and who has held office continuously since his election 27 years ago, is a firm believer in the strict observance of the accepted principles of international law and conduct. He has consistently criticised attacks on foreign embassies, the use of force as a means of settling disputes, and the unilateral denunciation of agreements.
