INTRODUCTION: The 1974 men's Olympic Hockey Champions, West Germany, had a narrow win over England when the two countries met in a full international on the famous Lord's cricket ground in London on Saturday, 12 March. Although West Germany, who finished fifth in the Montreal Games when the title went to New Zealand, pulled a goal back just before half time, England continued to dominate this section of the game. But the picture soon changed in the second half. Victory finally went to the West Germans and the final score was 4 - 3 to the former Olympic Champions. The BBC's Neil Durden Smith is the commentator.
