    BARRY BRIGGS, THE NEW ZEALANDER WHO RIDES FOR THE ENGLISH CLUB, SWINDON, WON ALL HIS FIVE HEATS TO WIN THE TITLE IN THE NYA ULLEVI STADIUM. FOR BRIGGS, WHO CLAIMED THE EUROPEAN TITLE EARLIER THIS YEAR, IT WAS HIS FOURTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WIN.

    BJOERN KNITSSON, OF SWEDEN, MADE AN UNFORTUNATE START TO RETAIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AS HIS ENGINE FAILED TO START IN HIS FIRST HEAT. HE WON ONLY ONE RACE AND WHEN HE RODE AGAINST BRIGGS HE FINISHED LAST.

    BRIGGS FINISHED WITH 15 POINTS, AHEAD OF SVERRE HARRFELDT OF NPRWA WITH 14 POINTS AND ANTONI WORYNA OF POLAND WITH 13 POINTS. KNUTSSON FINISHED 10TH.
