THE PURPOSE OF HIS VISIT TO THE MEKONG RIVER DELTA WAS TO PRESIDE AT A MILITARY CEREMONY MARKING THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS AGAINST VIET CONG IN THE AREA.

    THE LARGE CROWD WAVED PAPER FLAGS AS THE PRIME MINISTER WALKED PAST THEM TO A SPECIALLY ERECTED PAVILION AFTER INSPECTING SOUTH VIETNAM TROOPS WHO WERE ENGAGED IN THE OPERATIONS. IN HIS SPEECH, THE PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCED THAT HE WOULD END DISORDERS AGAINST HIS MILITARY GOVERNMENT OR RESIGN. HE SAID: "IT IS TIME TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE. WE MUST STOP THE TROUBLE. EITHER I STOP IT -- OR RESIGN."
    ASSISTING PRIME MINISTER KY IN PINNING GALLANTRY MEDALS ON SOME OF THE OUTSTANDING SOLDIERS WERE THE DEFENCE MINISTER, LIEUTENANT GENERAL NGUYEN HUU CO, AND THE MILITARY COMMANDER OF CAN THO AREA, LIEUTENANT GENERAL DANG VAN QUANG. VIETNAMESE GIRLS GARLANDED THE SOLDIERS, AND THERE WAS AN EXHIBITION OF ASSORTED WEAPONS TAKEN FROM VIET CONG KILLED DURING THE OPERATIONS.
