TRANSCRIPT (SEQ 2): REPORTER: "AMBASSADOR MADECELA OF TANZANIA, WHAT IS YOUR REACTION TO THE BRITISH RESOLUTION?"

MADECELA: "WELL MY REACTION TO THE BRITISH RESOLUTION IS THAT REALLY IT CONTAINS NOT VERY MUCH. OR PERHAPS IF I WERE TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, IT CONTAINS NOTHING THAT CAN BRING DOWN THE SMITH REBELLION."

TRANSCRIPT (SEQ 3): REPORTER: "CHIEF ADEBO OF NIGERIA, WHAT IS YOUR REACTION TO THE BRITISH RESOLUTION?"

ADEBO: "I THINK THE BRITISH DRAFT RESOLUTION CONTAINS A NUMBER OF POINTS UPON WHICH THEY CAN COUNT UPON OUR SUPPORT. THERE ARE CERTAIN SIGNIFICANT OMISSIONS FROM THE DRAFT ABOUT WHICH WE SHALL HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY."

TRANSCRIPT (SEQ 4): REPORTER: "AMBASSADOR KIRONDE OF UGANDA, WHAT'S YOUR REACTION TO MR BROWN'S RESOLUTION?"

KIRONDE: "MR BROWN'S STATEMENT, ALTHOUGH OF COURSE IT MUST BE AMENDED WERE AND THERE, BY AND LARGE IT HAS BEEN FAIRLY SATISFACTORY."

TRANSCRIPT (SEQ 5): REPORTER: "AMBASSADOR BAROODY OF SAUDI ARABIA, WHAT'S YOUR REACTION TO THE BRITISH RESOLUTION ON RHODESIA?"

BAROODY: "I THINK IT'S A GREAT STEP FORWARD FROM THE PAST POLICY OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, HOWEVER, IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN, WHETHER IT WILL BE ACCEPTABLE BY ALL THE AFRICANS."

REPORTER: "WHAT IS YOUR GUESS ABOUT THIS?"

BAROODY: "IT'S A FIFTY-FIFTY CHANCE THAT MOST OF IT WILL BE ACCEPTED ALTHOUGH THERE MIGHT BE SOME HEDGING WITH REGARD TO THE USE OF FORCE IF AT A CERTAIN TIME IN THE FUTURE THE RESOLUTION COULD NOT BE IMPLEMENTED EFFECTIVELY."

Background: AT THE UNITED NATIONS ZAMBIA HAS CALLED FOR FORCE AS THE ONLY WAY TO TOPPLE THE ILLEGAL RHODESIAN REGIME. REJECTING BRITAIN'S PROPOSALS FOR SELECTIVE MANDATORY SANCTIONS, THE ZAMBIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SAID THE DRAFT TACKLED ONLY HALF THE PROBLEM AND HE CALLED FOR A TOTAL BAN ON TRADE WITH RHODESIA. SOON AFTER BRITAIN'S FOREIGN SECRETARY HAD PRESENTED HIS PROPOSALS TO THE SECURITY COUNCIL, OUR REPORTER ASKED SOME OF THE DELEGATES THEIR IMMEDIATE REACTIONS.
