    In talks prior to the opening of the Organisation of African Unity summit meeting in Addis Ababa, Nigeria agreed to resume full diplomatic relations with Tanzania and Zambia in a healing of the breach caused when the two East African countries recognised the Biafra rebel regime during the Nigerian Civil War.

    Federal Nigerian leader Major-General Yakubu Gowon, President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia met at the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel under the auspices of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, chairman of the O.A.U. committee on Nigeria.

    The Emperor proposed a toast to the agreement and Major-General Gowon embraced the two President saying "We are now African brothers again."
    The reconciliation meeting was also attended by outgoing O.A.U. chairman President Ahmadou Ahidjo of Cameroun, another member of the consultative committee.
