    Somalia asked the united Nations Security Council on Thursday. (16 Nov), to impose a total arms embargo against Portugal until it grants independence to its African territories. The resolution, introduced by Somali Ambassador Hussein Nur Elmi, demands that "all states, particularly certain military allies of Portugal put an end to the sale or supply of weapons, military equipment and material to the Government of Portugal, as well as all supplies, equipment and material for manufacture or maintenance of weapons and ammunition as long as Portugal refuses to renounce its policy of colonial domination."
    The three co-sponsors, Guinea, Somalia and the Sudan, also asked the Security Council, through the resolution, to express itself as "deeply shocked by the continuous use of napalm and chemical substance by Portugal in its colonial wars against people of Angola, Guinea (Bissau) and Cape Verde and Mozambique."
    SYNOPSIS: At the United Nations on Thursday, Somali Ambassador Hussein Nur Elmi, asked the Security Council to impose a total arms embargo on Portugal until it grants independence to its African states.

    Supporting the Somali stand, are Guinea and the Sudan. A Liberation Group spokesman from Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde, Senhor Gil Fernandes, also spoke on the resolution.
