    Every year in Thailand,the Government sets aside the second Saturday in January for the country's children.

    This year, nearly five thousand of them went into Bangkok to greet Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn when he came to town to open the huge celebrations. The celebrating wasn't just limited to the children who could make it to bangkok. another 55,000 children shared in the national day's celebrations when they received parcels of food and gifts. The big attraction this year was a display of fighting equipment. There were also vehicles from the city's fire department, free visits to the zoos and parks, and everything to warm the heart of a Thai youngster.

    SYNOPSIS: In Thailand each year, Prime Minister Kittikachorn puts down the weighty affairs of State and gives the day over to the children of the nation. The day the government earmarks 'Children Only' is the second Saturday in january, and it's the Prime Minister's job to see that it all runs smoothly.

    This year, nearly five thousand children went into bangkok to greet their Prime Minister, and then it was fun and games all day. Along with the streamers, the icecreams and the balloons was an array of military equipment. tanks, gun carriers and armoured cars. All there for the children to play on. and if the children wanted a trip to the city's zoos or parks, they were taken there, as guests of the Government.

    It's an important day. to Thai children, more important than Christmas and this year's was the best yet.
