After arriving in Aswan in Egypt on Friday (January 11), the United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry kissinger, went straight to the riverside villa where President Sadat has been recuperating from an attack of bronchitis. The purpose of his visit is to discuss troop disengagement along the Suez Canal and he will fly to Israel on Saturday (January 12).
Earlier on Friday Dr. Kissinger stopped off in the Spanish capital, Madrid, for a meeting with the new Spanish Foreign Minister, Pedro Cortina, while his aircraft was refuelling.
Before leaving, Dr. Kissinger told newsman that his talks with Senor Cortina had centred on the world energy crisis and bilateral relations. His Spanish stopover was the second visit to Spain within a month. On December 18th Dr. Kissinger had talks with the then Foreign Minister Laureano Lopez Rodo who lost his post in a cabinet reshuffle following the assassination of Prime Minister Admiral Luis Carrero Blanco.
SYNOPSIS: Dr. Kissinger's next step was Egypt where he went straight to President Sadat's villa at Aswan. He will be concentrating on bringing about a troop disengagement on the Suez Canal in his discussions there and in Israel on Saturday.
