    The African and Malagasy Industrial Property Office began a ministerial conference in Abidjan on Friday (May 14). The office enables its dozen members to co-ordinate policies regarding patents, trade marks and industrial designs. The present session, opened by Ivorian Economics and Finance Minister Konan Bedie who is President of the Office, will review current activities.

    SYNOPSIS: The Ivory Coast's Finance and Economics Ministry was meeting place for representatives of a dozen African nations at a conference in Abidjan. It was the tenth session of the African and Malagasy Industrial Property Office, which started a two-day ministerial meeting on Friday. Finance Minister Konan Bedie presided.

    M.Bedie is President of the Office, which enables member countries to co-ordinate their policies in such matters as patents, trade marks and industrial designs. The latest session is planned to review the office's current activities. M. Bedie declared that past difficulties within the organisation had been largely overcome.

    The success story was continued by Dr Bogch, Deputy Director General of the Office. A new programme of judicial, financial and economic consolidation is planned for the organisation, which starts its second decade next year. Industrial and economic experts had been meeting for four days in Abidjan to prepare the way for this weekend session. Progress at the conference was watched by observers from the World Industrial Property Organisation, the Industrial development Organisation of the United Nations and the Afro-Malagasy Common Organisation.
