  • Description

President Bongo of Gabon inaugurated a new festival pavilion in a ceremony in Libreville on Saturday (16 January). The pavilion is part of Gabon's series of improvements being built in honour of the upcoming visit of French President Pompidou to West Africa.

During the ceremony, President Bongo listened to addresses by the Vice President and Sr. Corrado, the Italian Secretary of State of Foreign Commerce. The pavilion was assigned by an Italian group and Italian engineers worked in the construction phase.

The circular pavilion has a diameter of 148 feet (45 metres) and is topped by a metal arrow 111 feet (34 metres) high. The pavilion cost 440 million CFA (GBP approximately GBP600,000 Sterling), of which close to half was put up by municipality of Libreville.

Following Sr. Corrado's speech, President Bongo cut the tape officially opening the pavilion. The president, accompanied by his wife, then toured the pavilion before leaving.
