    The Greek passenger ferry "Knossos" sailed into Piraeus harbour at dawn on Sunday (21 October) from Alexandria with more than 500 refugees from Egypt.

    The ship had been chartered by the United States authorities and berthed at the special US Navy Port Facilities Dock.

    The passenger all appeared to be United States nationals and, as they ere greeted by American Embassy officials strict security measures were enforced by both Greek and American port staff.

    Cameramen were not allowed to film in the vicinity of the Dock.

    As the embarks left the ship they were ushered into a waiting flest of coaches which, with police escorts, took them to an Athens hotel.

    Several shiploads of foreigners have been evacuated from Egypt to Athens in the past few days - some of them were tourists stranded since the outbreak of the Middle East war. The ships had been promised safe passage by both the Egyptian and Israeli authorities.

    Since their arrivals, Embassies of the foreign nationals have been arranging airlifts home for them.

They'd sailed in from Alexandria on the Greek passenger ferry. "Knossos". The ship had been chartered by the United States authorities. It had berthed at the special U.S. Navy Port Facilities Dock at Piraeus near Athens.

    The evacuees were ferried from the Dock by a fleet of coaches to an Athens hotel. Cameramen had not been allowed near the Dock when the ship berthed and Greek and United States law enforcement officers kept pressmen away from the passengers.
