    THE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAYATO IKEDA, ON A TWO-WEEK GOODWILL TOUR OF SOUTH-EAST ASIA, ARRIVED IN RANGOON, BURMA, ON NOVEMBER 24 AFTER VISITING INDIA AND PAKISTAN. HE IS TO EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENDING ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION WITH THE COUNTRIES HE VISITS, AND IS ACCOMPANIED BY EXPERTS IN SHALL ENTERPRISES, FISHERIES, AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY, AND MEDICINE.

    ONE OF THE PLACES OF INTEREST VISITED BY MR. IKEDA IN RANGOON WAS THE FAMOUS BUDDHIST TEMPLE, SHWE DAGON PAGODA. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE TEMPLE TRUSTEE, THE CHIEF JUSTICE U BA GYAN.

    PRIME MINISTER IKEDA WAS ALSO TO DISCUSS WITH THE BURMESE PREMIER, U NU, BURMA'S CLAIM FOR INCREASED WAR REPARATIONS FROM JAPAN. IN THE REPARATIONS AGREEMENT SIGNED WITH JAPAN, BURMA ACCEPTED US $200 MILLION OVER A TEN YEAR PERIOD. UP TO THIS YEAR, SIXTY PERCENT OF THIS HAD BEEN PAID. THE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT ALSO ASKED FOR 50 MILLION US DOLLARS IN ECONOMIC AID. THIS, BURMA CLAIMS, HAS NOT BEEN FULLY FORTHCOMING. THE INCREASED REPARATIONS NOW INCLUDE DEMANDS FOR 200 MILLION US DOLLARS AND A SIMILAR AMOUNT IN ECONOMIC AID. A DELEGATION OF JAPANESE AND BURMESE OFFICIALS HAVE DISCUSSED THE DEMANDS IN RANGOON RECENTLY.
